President visits flood affected district through satellite video conferencing

Karachi: The President today visited a number of Sindh districts through video conferencing from special Flood Control Room in Bilawal House to monitor the flood relief measures and steps taken against outbreak of dengue and other diseases.

The districts thus visited included Sanghar, Matiari, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tharparkar, Jamshoro, Dadu, Ghotki, Hyderabad and Naushehro Feroze.

Spokesperson Farhatullah Babar said that elected representatives and district officials were present in the respective control rooms in district headquarters for briefing the President on the current status of relief and rehabilitation measures.

The President asked questions about the supply and demand position of food, water, medicines, mosquito repellents, and tents in the affected areas and issued instructions to address the demand for rescue and relief goods in the worst affected areas.

Meanwhile taking note of reports of precarious conditions in Raheem nagar in Mirpurkhas and Kunri in Umerkot, the President directed to immediately address the acute problems of the flood victims in these areas. The President said the stagnant water should be drained out and mosquito repellents provided to the people of these villages on an urgent basis and a compliance report submitted to him.

The President directed the Water and Power Minister Syed Naveed Qamar to arrange for de-watering pumps to evacuate the stagnant water in these areas.

The Chief Minister Sindh was also present in the Control Room of CM House and participated in the video conference.

Taking note of the burnt out transformers in the flooded areas the President directed the Water and Power Minister Naveed Qamar to replace the burnt transformers. The President said that special provision be made in the existing national policy to facilitate the replacement of burnt transformers in flood areas without cost of the consumers, Farhatullah Babar said.

The President also directed that all the recently designated coordination officers move immediately to the districts assigned to them to personally monitor the progress. The coordination officers who were present in the Flood Control Room will stay in their districts for the next two days before returning to rescue their normal duties in the provincial capital.
