Karachi: The 3rd All Pakistan DHA Karachi Cup Open Golf Championship 2012 played at Defence Authority Country and Golf Club from 01 Mar – 04 Mar’ 2012 finished here on Sunday evening. An impressive prize distribution ceremony was held at the golf club venue in which Commander 5 Corps Lt. Gen Muhammad Zahirul Islam was the chief guest.
The Corps Commander appreciated Defence Authority Country and Golf Club for promoting golfing activity in the country and for organizing a spectacular golf tournament in which a large number of golfers including professionals, senior professionals, amateurs, seniors, veterans, ladies and master golfers participated.
He said that it was heartening that golfers from all over Pakistan and players of all ages and categories participated in the tournament with great zeal and enthusiasm. He added that golfing was a lively and fascinating activity that called for application of mind, technique and demonstration of sportsman spirit reflecting healthy and positive trends in society. He said that keenness of golfers was indicative of both the zeal for the game as well as, it promoted the national spirit as Pakistanis.
The overall total prize money of Rs. 1 million along-with other attractive prizes were given to various individual golfers who won the championship in various categories. In Professionals match Shahid Javed Khan (RPGC) won the coveted prize with below 5 pars over 54 holes score while Waheed Baloch (KGC) and Amjad Yousuf (KGC) were second with below 3 pars each.
In senior professionals Ghani Khan (KGC) with 73 score was first while Muhammad Iqbal (GYM) bagged the second position with 74 score. In Amateurs Muhammad Waseem Rana (DHA) was winner gross with 227 score while Zohaib Asif (DHA) won the net match with a score of 214.
In the ladies event Miss Park Youg Hea (KGC) won the winner (net) with 37 score while Mrs Hea Kyung Park (KGC) with 45 score won the winner (gross) trophy. In veterans winner (net) trophy went to Basit Ali Khan (DHA) with 37 score while winner gross was Lt. Col (R) M Z K Burki (DHA) with 43 score. In seniors Anwar Ali (DHA) with 71 score was winner (net) and Murtaza Ali Qasim (DHA) with 82 score was winner (gross).
At the end the chief guest distributed trophies and prizes among the winners in various categories.
