Lahore: Punjab University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran has said the prosperity, solidarity and sovereignty of a nation are directly related to its education, policies and continuous struggle.
Unfortunately, in our country, the educational policies were changed with the change of governments and no government had allocated sufficient national budget for this sector. The Vice-Chancellor, in his message, has offered his heartiest greetings to the varsity teachers, students and employees on the festive day of Eid-ul-Fitr.
He urged the leadership to allocate at least 4% of total budget (GDP) on education every year. He said one of the basic purposes of the eve of Eid was to develop unity among the Muslim Ummah and this cause must ever be remembered. He said on the occasion of Eid, every student, teacher, politician, journalist, labourer and every Pakistani must make a commitment to themselves and their nation that they would play their role to combat against the internal and external threats faced to Pakistan.
He said in order to make Pakistan totally self-reliant and sovereign, we had to strengthen our position in the comity of nations, which is not possible without getting education. Strengthening education sector by investing more, increasing literacy rate, research, primary, secondary and higher education should be a clear-cut task before us.
For this, we must form a law to invest at least four percent of total national income on the education sector. Dr Kamran said in a country like ours where policies are changed with the change of government, here along with long-term policies, short-term target oriented policies can be more effective and fruitful. “I wish a very happy Eid to all Pakistanis, especially teachers with my humble appeal to all of them to save and deliver in this Properly profession with devotion, commitment and untiring efforts and turn our youth into well learned competitive manpower.”
