Karachi: Former City Nazim and member of MQM Coordination Committee Syed Mustafa Kamal called it a good omen that the citizens of Karachi had started owning their city. Over 12 Lacs trees planted in city in last few years were a clear proof of this. Had citizens not protected them, they would have been destroyed by now. Real success would only be seen with the existence of ownership of all civic bodies including city government, towns and other municipal services providers. During our tenure, we had recovered hundreds of acres of land from the occupation of land mafia and different organizations and then gave citizens huge and beautiful parks.

He expressed these views while addressing as chief guest in a seminar held by city district government Karachi in a local hotel in connection with the ongoing cleanliness drive.

The seminar was also attended by Provincial Secretary Environment and Alternative Energy Mir Hussain Ali, Chairperson Newport Institute Huma Bukhari, Town Administrators, EDOs of City Government, Director General Parks Liaquat Ali Khan, Director I. Own Karachi Project Tooba Zarif, representatives of NGOs and a good number of citizens.

Speaking on this occasion Mustafa Kamal said it was the duty of all the officers of city and town administration to serve the city.

He said the Supreme Court had in its verdict clearly directed that the command of the city should be held by a certain organization and now the civil society and the media has to play their role for its implementation.

He said Karachi is our home and we respect everyone who does something for its bitterness.
Mustafa Kamal said setting up of modern garbage transfer stations and treatment of sewage were focused by us and now solution to these problems should be given preference.

He also thanked citizens of Karachi who he said on the appeal of Quaid-e-Tehreek Altaf Hussain, were taking part in the cleanliness drive in city.

Earlier provincial secretary environment Mir Hussain Ali in his address said the achievements of former city nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal was an example for whole country. He said the provincial ministry of environment and alternative energy was fully cooperating with city government in its present drive.

The seminar was also addressed by EDO Community Rehana Saif, D.G Parks Liaquat Ali Khan, Administrator Gulshan Town Raza Abbas, Director IOK Tooba Zarif , Huma Bukhari and SSP Aamir Farooqui.
