Geneva (UNA-OIC) Saudi Arabia on Friday expressed its strong condemnation of the vicious aggression carried out by the Israeli occupation forces against the defenseless Palestinian people, resulting in the deaths of many martyrs and the injury of many more innocent civilians.
This came in Saudi Arabia's address to the extraordinary session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) on Palestine, delivered by Ambassador Dr. Abdulaziz bin Mohammed Al-Wasel. The UNHRC meeting in Geneva comes to look into the recent Israeli massacre of more than 60 Palestinians during the "Great March of Return" protests along the eastern border of Gaza with Israel.
Ambassador Al-Wasel confirmed Saudi Arabia's firm stance on the Palestinian cause and its support for the people of Palestine to restore their legitimate rights in accordance with international resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
Wasel called on the international community to do what is necessary and to exert all efforts to put an immediate end to the violence and killing against the Palestinians and to urge Israel to implement the relevant international legitimacy resolutions. He also called on the international community to make the effort towards ending the Israeli occupation of Palestine.
The Saudi envoy said that Saudi Arabia has clearly expressed its rejection of the US administration's decision to relocate its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. He pointed out that the US step represents a blatant bias against the historical and permanent rights of the Palestinian people in Jerusalem, guaranteed by the relevant international resolutions.
Al-Wasel noted that Saudi Arabia had warned of the serious consequences of such an unjustifiable move to provoke the feelings of Muslims around the world, affirming the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination and to the establishment of an independent State with Jerusalem as its capital.
He called on member states of the UNHRC to unanimously adopt the draft resolution calling for the formation of an international commission to investigate Israeli violations.
