Islamabad, November 06, 2012 (PPI-OT): Senate Standing Committee on Cabinet and Capital Administration and Development on Tuesday, unanimously passed IPO Bill 2012 in a meeting held at Cabinet Division Secretariat, Islamabad.
The meeting was presided by Chairperson Senator Kulsum Perveen. The meeting was attended by committee members Senator Najma Hameed, Senator Dr. Seeda Iqbal, Senator Kamil Ali Agha, Senator Nawabzada Saif Ali Magsi, Chairman IPO-Pakistan Hameed Ullah Jan Afridi, Director General IPO-Pakistan Sajjad Ahmad Bhutta, Additional Secretary, Cabinet Division, Shahid Ullah Baig, Joint Secretary Cabinet Ayaz Khan, Secretary Cabinet Committee Ghulam Murtaza, Officers of IPO Hamid Javaid Awan, Nadia Zubair Shah, Muhammad Ismail and Amir Latif.
Director General IPO Sajjad Ahmad Bhutta gave a briefing about IPO Bill 2012 and highlighted the salient features of the said Bill. The members of the Standing Committee discussed different clauses of the Bill.
The Chairman IPO Pakistan Hammed Ullah Jan Afridi said that IPO Act would empower the Organization to adopt solid steps for the improvement of service delivery system besides proceeding for up-gradation of Trade Mark, Copy Rights and Patent Laws.
He expressed gratitude to the Parliamentarians for taking keen interest in the promulgation of IPO Ordinance and said that IPO Tribunals would be established after the enactment of IPO Bill 2012 while new IP Offices would also opened in KPK and Baluchistan. Similarly, IPO Policy Board, would also be constituted to undertake Policy Decisions.
The Chairperson of Standing Committee Senator Kulsum Perveen, in her concluding remarks stated that Senate Committee after thorough analysis of IPO Bill 2012, has given its approval in national and public interest.
Mr. Shahid Ullah Baig also clarified various points raised by the members of committee and said that enactment of IPO Bill would enable the Organization to accelerate the pace of development initiatives, adopted to improve the services of IPO Pakistan for the protection of Intellectual Property Rights.
