The Sindh government has banned the use of plastic bags across the province with immediate effect.
According to Sindh Chief Minister's adviser on Environment, Climate Change Murtaza Wahab, the provincial government has issued a notification to this effect.
He said the production, sale and usage of plastic bags is a crime under the environmental laws of the province.
Sindh government has also formed teams from the provincial environment department to carry out raids, and ensure that the law is being followed.
Those who will be selling products in plastic bags will be arrested and a fine of 10,000 rupees will be imposed on them.
