Lahore, November 26, 2014 (PPI-OT): The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA), in collaboration with Senior Experten Service (SES), a German agency, has concluded a program with the assistance of their expert, Mr. Hans Joachim Hanusch, for capacity building of Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FCCI). The program was a three-week intensive exercise undertaken by SMEDA to assist FCCI through transfer of knowledge and international best practices on Chamber functions and operations.
The assignment aimed to take into account the strengths and weaknesses in the service delivery and advocacy system and practices of the selected chamber of commerce and suggest recommendations to make those systems and practices more dynamic and beneficial for the member-businessmen in view of international best practices.
FCCI was assessed for efficiency and adequacy of both organizational operations and service facilitation. It was also measured against international best practices of two similar organizations.
Mr. Hanusch appreciated the infrastructural strengths of the Chamber and its networking amongst key members. He was also keen on capitalizing the dedication and motivation of Chamber members to provide support to not only its Members but also non-members and potential new entrants.
Mr. Hanusch provided recommendations for increased effectiveness of Standing Committees, human resource development, information collection and dissemination through research and development, employment generation opportunities and improved accessibility of services for SMEs.
Before his departure the other day, Mr. Hanusch briefed CEO SMEDA about his stay in Pakistan and areas of improvement towards service delivery of trade bodies. On desire of Mr. Alamgir Chaudhry, CEO – SMEDA, Mr. Hanusch also discussed about the possibility of engaging SES and other German organizations on a long-term basis to implement similar programs in collaboration with the trade bodies including the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FPCCI) for capacity building of Chambers across Pakistan.
CEO SMEDA thanked Mr. Hanusch and also presented a souvenir to him in recognition to his services in Pakistan. It is notable that the recommendations compiled by Mr. Hanusch may be utilized by SMEDA as a template for replication on the other trade bodies.
