Srinagar, February 08, 2014 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, complete shutdown was observed in Pulwama town to protest the arrest of local youth by Indian police.
The police on Thursday arrested two youth in the town for participating in anti-India demonstrations against the killing of a youth by Indian troops in Kangan area of Pulwama on February 1. The arrested youth were identified as Umar Gul and Waseem Ahmad. All shops and business establishments remained closed while transport was off the road in the town.
People took to the streets and staged demonstrations against the arrests. The police used brute force and fired teargas shells in many parts of the town including Muran Chowk, Rajpora Chowk and Dalipora to disperse the demonstrator. The police also arrested six more youth.
