Supreme Court decides 1781 cases during the month of June 2011

Islamabad: Supreme Court of Pakistan disposed of 1781 cases during the month of June 2011 whereas 1180 new cases were instituted. The backlog of cases in Supreme Court on 1st July 2011 is 19550.

The backlog in the apex court on 1st June was 20151 cases. As 1180 new cases were instituted during the month of June 2011. The progressive total of pending cases as on 30th June comes to 21331.Out of these, 1781 cases were disposed of in the month of June 2011, therefore the backlog on1st July 2011 remains 19550.

The Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry constituted benches at the Principal Seat Islamabad and Branch Registries to expedite the case hearing and clear the backlog even during the court vacation. Inspite of the hearing of some urgent nature cases like ZAB Reference case, Hajj scam case, NICL Scam case and Safe City Project case etc were also heard alongwith other regular cases, Supreme Court remained committed and decided a good number of cases.

The Honourable Chief Justice of Pakistan and the Hon’ble Judges of Supreme Court remained committed to accelerated /expeditious disposal of the cases and further reduce the backlog. The Hon’ble Judges continued to hear the case in various benches with the aim to provide relief to the litigants.

At Principal Seat Islamabad 490 cases were instituted while 519 cases were disposed of during the month of June 2011. At Branch Registry Lahore 422 cases were instituted while 968 cases were disposed of. At Branch Registry Karachi 120 cases were instituted while 192 cases were disposed of. At Branch Registry Peshawar 133 cases were instituted while 102 cases were disposed of and in Quetta 15 cases were instituted. Therefore the total institution during the month was 1180 while disposal of cases at Principle seat as well as branch registries was 1781.
