Ties between media and Islamabad Police to be strengthened: Senior Superintendent of Police

Islamabad: Islamabad police have been made friendly police through active interaction between police and community and every possible step is further being ensured for promoting its relations with public to ensure effective policing.

It was stated by SSP (Traffic) Dr. Moeen Masood here Thursday while addressing the participants of five-day workshop arranged by GIZ (CCBLE) with theme of `Relationship between Media and Police’ during their visit to Islamabad Traffic Police Headquarters. Advisor GIZ Mehmet Oguz Pogal also accompanied the participants of the workshop.

A total of 19 police officers of SP, DSP as well as Inspector rank and officials from Ministry of Information also attended this workshop and their visits were managed to various media organizations with the same purpose of boosting relationship of policemen with media persons and understand the working of media personnel too.

Cops from Islamabad police, Punjab police, Khyber Pukhtoonkhawa visited the Media and Public Relation Centre (MPRC) established exclusively by Islamabad police.

The SSP (Traffic) in his briefing to participants of workshop said that Islamabad Police is the pioneer force in the country which established such centre to enhance relations with public and giving them access to judge the performance of the force.

He said that the Capital Police would be made professional force as well as role model for other law enforcement agencies and equipped with modern technology. “Twelve television channels are monitored and news regarding police and security matters are noted for further action”, he added.

Dr. Moeen Masood said that capacity-building programs had also been initiated for the officers at MPRC to improve their professional skills of maintaining liaison with the public.

There is always a room for improvement, the SSP (Traffic) said adding that purpose of establishing MPRC was to get public opinion and inculcate reforms in policing sector.

The participants of the workshop said that they had learnt a lot through this workshop and consider media as very important tool for opinion making. They also acknowledged the importance of media and to work in a responsible manner with them in future for boosting police-public relations.
