Peshawar: A two day’s training workshop on Fruit and Vegetable production technology, organized by Directorate of Outreach, Agriculture Research Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in collaboration with Agriculture Research Institute, Mingora was held at the Institute (on 19 and20 April, 2012).
This training workshop was attended by participants from agriculture extension, Research, progressive farmers and nursery men of the area. The purpose of this training workshop was to collaborate and share information on Fruit and Vegetable production issues in the valley.
Speaking on the occasion Dr. Muhammad Rauf briefed on the ongoing activities at the Research Institute. He said that the institute has developed many fruit and vegetable varieties, which are now sown in the region and elsewhere. This is due to the efforts of this Institute and hard work of the farmers that now fruits and vegetables are available in the market over an extended period than previous years.
Mansoor Ahmad, Training coordinator said the Outreach is brining farmers, extension workers and researchers of the province together to discuss various issues and problems faced by them regarding the technology transfer from research to the farmers.
Dr. Khalil ur Rahman presented topic nursery production for fruit plants, discussed about fruits varieties in the valley and on the research station. He also discussed current projects in the institute and their benefits to the participants. Mr. Muhammad Ilyas talked about different apricot varieties and importance of indigenous gemplasm preservation.
Dr. Ramani Gul, gave an account of the importance of different vegetable crops and nursery management in vegetal crop.
The participants discussed the problems, their possible solution and future strategies to meet again to further develop their nurseries, orchards and vegetable production activities.
A visit of the fruits and vegetables research farms was given to the participants of the training workshop. The participants were briefed about different varieties. They asked many questions and got appropriate answer.
