Rawalpindi: A seven member delegation of US Congress led by Doug Lamborn, called on Federal Minister for Defence, Ch. Ahmad Mukhtar in his office today. Secretary Defence, Lt General (Retd) Syed Athar Ali was also present in the meeting. They discussed a host of issues including Pakistan’s vital role in the fight against terror and the regional security situation. The meeting discussed over all security situation in the region and matters of bilateral Defence interests.
The US delegation emphasized the need to improve and strengthen the mechanism of bilateral cooperation as well as joint coordination in the fields of defence and security. The Minister also highlighted the counter-terrorism efforts made by Pakistan and said that the war had badly affected the economy of the country. The Minister informed the delegation that Pakistan wanted to see peace and stability in the region because only peace and stability could guarantee foreign investment and prosperity in the region.
