Lahore: Syed Amir Hamza Gilani, Director General, Pakistan Sports Board was the Chief Guest at the Finals of National Inter Department Karate Championship and awarded medals and trophies to the winners. He appreciated the efforts of Pakistan Karate Federation for promoting the sport of Karate in Pakistan. Teams from all the affiliated departments of Pakistan Karate Federation WAPDA, Army, Police and Pakistan Railways have participated in the Championship.
Pakistan WAPDA won the championship by winning 5 Gold and 2 Silver medals with 125 points while Pakistan Army stood second by winning 2 Gold, 4 Silver and 1 Bronze medal scoring 95 points and Railways by winning 1 Silver and 3 bronze medals with 35 points secured third position.
WAPDA won Gold Medals in -50kg (Ali Mahmood), -60kg (Mohsin Hazara), -67kg Baz Muhammad, -84kg (Muhammad Ramzan) and in Team Kumite. Army won Gold Medals in 55 Kg (Abu Zar) and in 75 Kg (Imtiaz Ali).
Syed Amir Hamza Gilani, Director General, Pakistan Sports Board also inspected National Training Camps of wrestling and karate established at Lahore for effective preparation and participation in the 12th South Asian Games. The 19 wrestlers, 18 male and 10 female karate players are attending both the camps under the supervision of qualified local coaches. The next edition of South Asian Games will be organized by India. The dates are yet to be announced by the Indian.
It is pertinent to add here that Pakistan had won 1-Gold, 2-Silver and 7-Bronze medals in karate whereas 2-Gold, 1-Silver and 2-Bronze medals in the last 11th South Asian Games held at Dhaka during 2010.
