Islamabad: The Chairman National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Dr. Zafar Qadir met Dr. Guido Sabatinelli World Health Organization Representative who was accompanied with Dr. George Martinez, the Chief of Emergency.
Dr. Guido Sabatinelli congratulated the new Chairman NDMA on the assumption of his responsibilities. The discussion was focused on health interventions to prevent communicable diseases in the flood hit areas, need for coordination with the provincial governments, ensuring effective preparedness in the upcoming monsoon season, provision of Cholera and Trauma kits.
The WHO representative stated that his organization looks forward to support NDMA in case of a disaster. He stressed the need for focused interventions for the prevention of Cholera in the flood affected areas. Dr. George Martinez, the Chief of Emergency said that WHO would make all efforts to cater to the needs of provincial governments to link them with the donors. The WHO Representative assured the Chairman NDMA of continued support in all humanitarian initiatives.
Dr. Zafar Qadir the Chairman NDMA, emphasized that although recovery from the devastation of recent floods was difficult the support and cooperation of the international humanitarian fraternity helped Pakistan succeeded to handle the situation in a short time. The Chairman stated that NDMA will share the relevant information with its partners to synchronize all the humanitarian efforts. He stressed the need for dissemination of awareness in the general public for quick response in the wake of disasters. The Chairman NDMA appreciated the support of WHO in all the humanitarian initiatives.
