Karachi, February 25, 2014 (PPI-OT): Mr. Zakaria Usman, President FPCCI invited the Turkish investors to invest in the energy sector in Pakistan. In a meeting with the Consul General of Turkey in Karachi Mr. Murat Mustafa Onrat yesterday in Federation House, Karachi he said that the bilateral trade between Pakistan and Turkey will be further developed by the implementation of the decisions of Istanbul Forum held this month in Turkey.
He said that the current government is eager to resolve the energy shortage in Pakistan and initiated efforts towards it and we hope that within 2 years there will be 5000 MW electricity in Pakistan. He also emphasized on the freight train service between Istanbul, Tehran and Islamabad and said that it should be started immediately with a proper time schedule and extended to Afghanistan through trucks to Kabul from Islamabad and through Chaman to Qandhar.
He further added that the train must have three to four refrigeration units for the storage of perishable consignments/items. The President further emphasized that the Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) be concluded as soon as possible as it has been more than 3 years of technical discussions between the two sides and the agreement is yet not concluded.
He said that both the countries should move ahead fast by resolving technical issues so that the PTA is materialized. Mr. Amjad Rafi, Chairman, Pakistan-Turkey Business Council of FPCCI added that this era is of globalization and bilateral trades can be enhanced regionally through PTAs and FTAs.
He also hoped that the President of TOBB out counterpart in Turkey in a meeting at Ankara with President FPCCI earlier this month has assured to help in facilitating the freight train service. Another sector is locomotive in which Turkey can help Pakistan by providing locomotives.
Zakaria Usman further stated that Turkey has become more popular in Pakistan because of their TV dramas serials shown on various Pakistani TV Channel. The general public likes these dramas which show their cultural association and love and affections with Turkish people. He stressed on reciprocal arrangement and said that Pakistan has also potential in TV Shows and dramas which can be translated in Turkish language for showing on Turkish TV Channels.
The President FPCCI also informed the Turkish Consul General that FPCCI has a plan to organize Pakistan’s single country exhibition in Turkey and requested him for necessary cooperation. He suggested we should arrange exhibitions and trade shows on reciprocal basis.
The Consul General of Turkey assured him full support and cooperation in all means for promotion of bilateral trade and cultural association between Pakistan and Turkey. He informed that Turkey is technologically very advanced and has the 6th largest economy in Europe and 16th largest economy in the world. He said that the technological support and collaboration can be extended to Pakistan. He assured his full support in pursuing his government for early conclusion and finalization of PTA.
During the meeting Mr. Shaukat Ahmed, Senior Vice President and Mr. Mazhar Nasir, Vice President FPCCI urges for frequent exchange of trade delegations reciprocally which will help the business community of both the countries to interact and introduce their products and needs. Mr. Nasir Sheikh, Ex-Chairman, Fairs and Exhibitions of FPCCI, Mr. Ghani Usman of HUM TV Channel also attended the said meeting.
