Pakistan urges Peace building Commission to cover Afghanistan, Kashmir issues

At the United Nations, Pakistan has urged the Peace building Commission to expand its coverage to include Afghanistan and Jammu and Kashmir.

Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to world body in New York Munir Akram participating in debate said significant situations such as in Afghanistan and in Jammu and Kashmir are not among those addressed by the Peace building Commission.

He said the Commission’s performance should be evaluated on the basis of actual outcomes rather than the number of meetings and engagements.

The President of the General Assembly, Csaba Korosi, underscoring the importance of joint efforts before conflict erupts, said: peace cannot be kept by force.”
