Minister for Climate Change Sherry Rehman says the accountability of imported hazardous waste and garbage in the country will begin under the newly approved National Hazardous Waste Management Policy, 2022.
Talking to the media, she said toxic waste needs to be separated from recyclable waste as it has disastrous effects on land, water and environment.
Terming the import of even 20 percent of the toxic waste as a matter of grave concern, she said this new policy will help check and regulate the import of toxic solid waste as this was never questioned before.
Sherry Rehman stressed for increasing the capability of provinces to manage solid waste.
