President Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries Lin Songtian along with a delegation called on Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal in Islamabad on Thursday.

They discussed projects under China Pakistan Economic Corridor.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Planning said Pakistan has a long historic relationship with China and the current government has revived the CPEC projects. He said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s successful visit to China is proof that the current government is determined to revive the CPEC projects.

The Minister said that Pakistan has a lot of potential in the field of agriculture, and China can take advantage of it.

They also discussed establishment of Special Economic Zones.

The Minister apprised the President of CPAFFC about progress made on SEZs. Ahsan Iqbal informed the delegation that Gwadar International Airport will be operational by next year and it has a lot of tourism potential.

During the meeting, he highlighted the significance of ML-1 and Karachi Circular Railway projects.

In his remarks, Lin Songtian said Chinese market has huge potential to provide profitability, stability and business efficiency. He also assured the Minister of cooperation in all sectors.

The President CPAFFC said he will soon send a group of Chinese experts to Pakistan so that they can exchange the joint experiences for the implementation of various projects.

President Dr. Arif Alvi has stressed the need for massive awareness in society regarding insurance to enhance its share in GDP to strengthen national economy.

Addressing a seminar of federal insurance ombudsman in Peshawar on Thursday, he emphasized on adoption of latest technology to facilitate general public.

The President said implementation of modern technology is the only way for progress in developing countries.

He asked the ombudsman to initiate economic insurance regarding flood and other natural calamities.

Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari met with Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council Dr. Nayef Falah M. Al-Hajraf in Riyadh today (Thursday).

Highlighting the importance attached by Pakistan to its relations with the brotherly countries of the Gulf, the Foreign Minister said that Pakistan sees GCC as an important player in the region that can play a vital role in further expanding political and economic ties between Pakistan and Gulf states.

The Foreign Minister and the Secretary General reviewed the status of Pakistan’s ongoing engagements and cooperation with the GCC and its member states.

The Foreign Minister expressed satisfaction on the trajectory of the relationship and underscored the need for continuing this momentum going forward.

The Foreign Minister also highlighted the need for early finalization of the ongoing negotiations on Pakistan-GCC Free Trade Agreements and asked technical teams from both sides to synergize their efforts to achieve this common objective.

The Foreign Minister said that Pakistan wants to further strengthen institutional linkages with GCC and its member states, in line with the Joint Action Plan for Strategic Dialogue between the two sides.

He said that Pakistan would be ready to host the next round of Strategic Dialogue at an early mutually convenient date in Islamabad.

The Foreign Minister and the Secretary General also shared views on regional and global issues including Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Afghanistan and Yemen.

The Foreign Minister briefed the Secretary General on Pakistan’s position and assessment on these issues and highlighted that Pakistan and the GCC countries have convergences of interests and positions on all issues of common concern.
